About Compress PDF
Make a PDF small enough to email or upload. Photos and scans are usually what makes a PDF big, so this tool reduces them to a sensible resolution and saves them more efficiently. It also removes data the document no longer uses.
Text, links, bookmarks and forms stay exactly as they were. Everything happens in your browser, so confidential documents never leave your device.
How to use Compress PDF
- 1Add a PDF file.
- 2Choose how much to compress it. Recommended suits most documents.
- 3Click Compress PDF and download the smaller file.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is compressed on your device, in your browser. It never leaves your computer or phone.
How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on what's inside. PDFs with photos or scanned pages often shrink by 50–90%. Documents that are mostly text are usually small already and shrink much less.
Will the text stay sharp?
Yes. Text and vector graphics aren't changed at all, so they stay perfectly sharp. Only images are reduced.
Which level should I choose?
Recommended keeps images clear on screen and in normal prints. Choose Smallest file when size matters most, or High quality for documents you'll print.
Why didn't my PDF get smaller?
Some PDFs are already compressed well, for example text documents or files saved by another compressor. Try Smallest file for a stronger reduction.
Can I compress password-protected PDFs?
Remove the password with Unlock PDF first (you'll need to know it), then compress the unlocked file.
